March 2-9 2003, Russian winter festival - Maslenitsa
If you want to see the most cherished and joyful Russian winter festival - Maslenitsa (Pancake Week) your tour should include the period from 2 of March till 9th of March 2003. It is the only pure Russian Holiday that dates back to the pagan times. The essential element of Maslenitsa is blini (pancakes). Blin is the symbol of sun. It is as round, gold and warm as the sun. Last day of the Great Maslenitsa after feast and drinking ends people say goodbye to winter till the next year by burning a scarecrow (a symbol of winter). Say goodbye to winter with us, taste different kinds of blini dishes, try real vodka, get involved into outdoor festive activities and experience what this Russian holiday is like.

Itinerary
 

Route Map

Day 1. Irkutsk, Russia. Arriving in Irkutsk in the morning. Transfer to Angara Hotel. Accommodation. Lunch. City-tour, visit to museums and Decembrists houses. Dinner. Overnight. 

Day 2. After breakfast transfer from Irkutsk to the Baikal Hotel in Listvyanka (on the shore of Lake Baikal). Visiting the open-air Museum of Wooden Architecture (20 km from Listvyanka on the Baikal road). In the museum tourists can see the exterior and interior of a typical wooden Siberian house of the 17-19th centuries, some houses of the local people, Buryats, and enjoy the picturesque view of the river and the surroundings. Accommodation. Lunch. Visiting Limnological Museum that displays wild life and eco-system of the area. Dinner. Overnight. 

Day 3. Breakfast. Snowmobile trip (about 2 hours) on the frozen surface of the lake. Return to the hotel. Lunch. Ferry trip to the village Port Baikal. Guided trekking along the Circum-Baikal section of the old Trans-Siberian Railroad. Dinner. Overnight. 

Day 4. Breakfast. Visit to the local Russian Orthodox Church. Return to the hotel. Lunch. Guided trekking along Baikal shore and enjoy the magnificent view of the lake. Experience the natural beauty of the surrounding forests, valleys and hills. Dinner. Overnight. 

Day 5. Breakfast. Transfer to Irkutsk. Visit to the Central Food market of Irkutsk. Lunch. Transfer to the train station. Leave for Novosibirsk, first class accommodation. 

Day 6. The train will cross Krasnoyarsk-city and the Yenissey River. Arriving in Novosibirsk in the evening. Accommodation at Sibir Hotel. Dinner. Overnight. 

Day 7. Breakfast. Tour to the famous Akademgorodok, visit to  Archeological or Mineralogical museum and the Open Air museum of trains. Lunch. Transfer to the lodge Strelinskay Isba. Dinner. Overnight. 

Day 8. Breakfast. Visiting local museum, horse sleigh ridding. Lunch. Dinner. Sauna. Overnight. 

Day 9. Breakfast. Transfer to Novosibirsk. Lunch. City-tour, visit to local museum. Visiting museum of "Opera and Ballet theater". In the evening cultural performance (that will depend on what there will be - opera or ballet). Dinner. Overnight. 

Day 10. Transfer to the airport. Leave from Novosibirsk for Moscow.
